2008 has been a different year for me as far as nature photography is concerned. For some reason, I have been fortunate to see and photograph many different types of common but not-so-common waterfowl. I have never seen so many ducks in my life as this year. Here are some for you to enjoy. All images are copyrighted by Tom Davenport and not to be reproduced without permission.

OK, NOT waterfowl, but a shorebird. This is a Long-billed Curlew. Ran into it today in a huge, open field. REALLY a cool bird.
The long-billed Curlew is almost goose size. Hope you get to see one!
This pair of Wood Ducks appeared on the pond at Cougar Gulch. I was trying to lure in a Redhead because there was one out there and they are my favorite. But, I'll take the wood ducks anytime.
Male Wood Duck. Cougar Gulch. While it is flooded, the marsh on Cougar Gulch road is thick with waterfowl. Check the reeds for the lone yellow-headed blackbird couple.
American Coot. What an ugly bird!
Pie-billed Grebe. I would LOVE to photograph this grebe with chicks. Maybe I can find a nest .....
Blue-winged Teal. Apparently, this duck migrates through north Idaho for breeding grounds farther north.
Blue-winged Teal. I have only ever seen these in the Cougar Bay / Cougar gulch area.
Cinnamon Teal. Very pretty bird, highly prized by hunters.
Cinnamon Teal.
Mallard. Yeah, I know, it's just a mallard. But, he trusted me enough to warm his beak right in front of me so what the heck.
Ring-necked Duck. This male showed up at the Falls Park pond as the ice was melting. It is my favorite duck.
This is the female Ring-necked Duck. In my opinion, the pretties of the female ducks. At least around here.
Common Goldeneye. This duck has eluded me for years. But, he decided to take refuge on the Falls Park pond that was ninety percent frozen over last winter. This little patch of water gave me great opportunities with this little guy.
