North Idaho College and the Spokane All Stars

Holy Cow! or Holy Cardinals!!!!! The North Idaho College men's basketball team took on the Spokane All Stars in an exhibition last night. In the interest of transparency, I am biased. I know some of these men, mostly from when they were kids. All I can say is WOW!!

A true showman, Idell Bell was all about getting support for the game Tuesday during school. Dell is larger than life and frankly I wondered if he could back it up. During the warm-ups, I thought he could stand to gain a few pounds. But let me tell you, that man can play. But maybe his greatest asset is his ability to communicate his passion for life and for basketball to everyone around him. On the court, Dell stepped up his energy even more. He had two impressive assists, an oop to B.J. Sheary for a one handed jam and another transition dish to Nick Fromm in the second half. Pretty.

The other starting point guard, Michael Hale III, is even skinnier than Dell. I thought he'd get eaten alive out there. Shows you what I know I guess. My goodness, where does NIC come up with these players! When you give up 100 pounds to some of the players, you're going to get pounded around, but Hale just continued to kick bottom side.

Nick Fromm was my favorite high school boy's basketball player. He red-shirted last year and saw some quality time last night. When I left, mid-way through the second half, Frommer had put up at least 8 points. Great player, always in the right place it seems.

I don't know BJ Sheary but have admired him since the first time I saw him play at the Idaho state basketball tournament a couple of years ago. He is always exciting to watch. His dunk was impressive. I know, where's the picture? It had black and white stripes though it. Sometimes its a dance with the officials, and frankly, I was just watching that play so didn't dance enough.

This year's team is well worth watching. It was really fun to see Brandon Haas out there. He was another of my favorites in high school. And a nice young man. In fact, all the players that I have contact with are exceptional people.

Finally, while making an adjustment to my camera in the second half, I looked up only to be face to face with a cheerleader. The cheer squad is pretty good and the pep band is outstanding. If you can, go see the Cards play. You can't beat the value.
