Post Falls at Coeur d'Alene High School girls basketball - 1-22-09
Holy Cow! Post Falls FRESHMAN Brooke Litalien hit a 3 pointer from the top of the key and the Trojans upset the Coeur d'Alene Vikings 56-55 at Elmer Jordan Court. Post Falls battled back after trailing at half by double digits. With about half a minute to go, Dani Meehan hit one of two free throws to tie the game. But ...CHS sophomore Kyeli Parker took some deep breaths and drilled two free throws with less than 10 seconds left to give the Vikings the lead. Post Falls tried to get the ball to Katelyn Loper but she was double or triple covered and Litalien could not get her the ball, so she sent one flying. As loud as it was in Viking gym, the Post Falls fans absolutely going wild, I swear I heard her call "Bank Shot" and with no time remaining the ball went in. What a SHOT! Congrats to the Trojans. A valiant game.
I have never been too impressed with the CHS student body fans. They've always been really good but in the past, the administration has exercised such control over them they are kind of like Stepford Fans. Friday night, the entire "Blue Zoo" sang the National Anthem.
Very impressive. I was a little disturbed that every time Katelyn Loper got the ball the whole crowd yelled what I thought was a disparaging chant at her. I thought that until Loper grabbed a pass, dribbled as close as she could to the fans and drilled a 3-pointer. The Coeur d'Alene crowd irrupted in cheers almost as loud as when one of their own scores. It almost seemed as if the chants were out of respect, which would be well deserved, and there is some kind of weird friendship between CHS fans and PFHS players, at least Katelyn Loper. Lastly, Kyeli Parker. This girl can play. I had heard on the street that she was a gamer, and if there was ever any question, she more than proved that Friday night. And who is Caelyn Orlandi? She's a freshman who will make a difference in a big game. One to watch for sure. Okay, really lastly, was there a typist at the hospital who randomly inserted the letter "e" in girl's names?
